Testimonials
Nancy has been my yoga teacher for almost two years. As a yoga instructor Nancy has a relaxed, warm and fun approach that gives her students an environment that feels safe and inviting while encouraging exploration and development of our bodies, minds and spirits and the connections between them. As someone who has suffered from depression and anxiety Nancy is very open and supportive of her students’ own issues and journeys to wellness, whether the related issues are psychological, physical or both. For example, during the past year she has been very supportive in seeing me through a head injury and the accompanying symptoms, frustrations, and emotional turmoil that it creates. She has been accommodating, encouraging and within her yoga studio she has provided a safe haven where I can feel hope and renewal.
I have also watched as Nancy provides this similar encouragement and support to my fellow students who suffer from a variety of issues – depression, anxiety, bad knees, the list goes on and on. Nancy is there for all of them – offering support and encouragement. Class after class she continues to set the example with her positive attitude and outlook on life.

We know Nancy through her book Courageous Butterfly, for what feels like a lifetime. We’ve actually known her for about ten years.
We know her as our yoga teacher. She is a warm, welcoming, gentle and attentive leader. The seniors that we are are expected to rise to her expectations, stretch a little farther, give our best, breathe deeper. She patiently corrects a posture, suggests alternatives, gives praise, attends to individual needs and abilities. She ignites our enthusiasm, exploits our strengths, nurtures our mind and soul with meditation. She enlarges our repertoire of poses and monitors our progress. Nancy will not allow age to be an excuse for not striving for the best of our ability
We know Nancy through the serenity of her home and garden. Both reflect her creative power, a deep sense of aliveness, of peace and order, of well-being that is passed on through her teaching. Nancy is one of those people who enrich the lives of others. She has touched ours in subtle but real ways.

We first met Nancy as our yoga instructor at the gym we attended at the time. Right from the start we noticed her sincere kindness and the way she cared very personally about her students in a way that the indifferent managers at the gym did not. We soon learned that she was working to start her own business and open a yoga studio. We immediately decided to join her new Emerging Butterflies Studio. All students who try Nancy’s classes recognize what an excellent teacher she is. Her yoga classes are more than just physically beneficial and relaxing; they are also calming in a spiritual sense. Nancy’s genuine warmth and kindness shine through every time we see her. She is truly a helpful, generous, and compassionate person, as well as very humble. She doesn’t treat her students only as customers; she treats them like friends.

I met Nancy a few years ago when she was teaching at Breakthrough Centre. At the time, I was looking for something that would bring me a sense of relaxation, a feeling of connection, for my life was really busy and my heart yearned for balance, tranquility and silence. I often heard people speak of yoga and had a sense that would be something that I would enjoy. However, I had a vision and perception that yoga was for skinny, flexible and spiritual people and although I considered myself spiritual, I often felt this was out of my reach.
The moment I started, I felt at home. Her ability to create a calm serene environment, allowed me to feel safe. Throughout the class, she often reminded us that yoga is your own practice, you begin where ever you are and just focus on the breath. This gave me the permission I needed to allow myself to be there. At first, I struggled, huff and puffed and when I saw myself compared to others, I questioned myself for even being here but it's at that very moment, she would bring me in through her compassionate, caring approach and remind me that we are all different with our ability to be flexible, it's not how far you reach but how comfortable you are in the pose. This allowed me to accept myself just where I was, at the beginning. Each time I went, I became more flexible, expanded my ability to trust and eventually yoga became a practice that I rely on for a sense of overall well being.
Over the years, Nancy has gone from doing yoga in a small room to having her own studio. Writing her story was not only a great way to heal her pass but a tool to mentor others through her own overcoming. Her compassionate and caring approach allows people to expand beyond their comfort zone reaching the impossible. I often see her doing one on one, mentoring, inspiring individuals to reach their potential, at the same time support them through difficult situations. Her ability to be empathetic makes people around her feel love and accepted.
Nancy is not only my yoga teacher, a person that I admire, love and look up to and with time has become a close friend. I trust her ability to expand my yoga practice, to push me when necessary out of my comfort zone but mostly a place of support, were I can get the love, acceptance, the hug, the re-assurance that you are on the right path, therefore more forward with courage for that is what she represents to me and all of us in her studio.

I met Nancy five years ago when trying out her yoga and meditation classes. Since then, my life has changed. This beautiful woman has always had a great influence on me. I feel I can go to her if I need her. Her wisdom has touched me in many ways. In her classes, Nancy thought me to tune in to my body and listen to it’s messages. She thought me the importance of stretching, exercising, and eating healthy. I am now much more active and energetic. She helped me find my passion for fitness and health.
Nancy has giving me the greatest gift. She has introduced me to meditation. She has led me to discover the wonderful powers of the mind. She has thought me how to slow down, to be in the present moment, and most importantly, to feel inner peace. This has affected the way I live my life. I have a complete confidence in myself. I know I can do, and be anything I want. All I have to do is believe. I have unlimited power. Nancy, I cannot thank you enough.

I first met Nancy eight years ago at a Yoga Class – she was the substitute teacher on that night – she greeted us with her beautiful smile and made us feel at ease immediately. Her style of teaching was gentle, kind and compassionate. It was the beginning of our friendship.
When Nancy opened her Yoga studio three years ago, I began taking weekly classes with her. As a woman, Nancy has a kind nature, a good sense of humour and a wonderful zest for life. As a teacher, she is dedicated, considerate, supportive and giving. She reminds us constantly to be mindful and present during practise and to acknowledge and accept our limitations. When we leave the class, we feel calmer, at peace and in harmony with one self and the outside world. She is a wonderful mentor.
