"Dear friends, I would like to share with you my incredible night at the Zonta Gala on November 15. 2012. I was truly honoured and humbled when I received the phone call that I was nominated for the 2012 Women of Achievement Awards in the category of Healthy Living, Well-Being and Sports. “The women of Achievement Awards are a way to celebrate women who have made a difference” says Event Chair, Shirley Hall of the Zonta Club. I am so honoured to be considered among these remarkable women.
I didn’t have a chance that night to thank all the people who made a difference in my life. I would like to take this opportunity to share my feelings with you. First I want to congratulate all the nominees and winners for their incredible work and for making a difference in our community. I want to thank the Zonta club for recognizing and celebrating these great women who are influential role models, and through their outstanding success have made a positive impact in the world.
We need strong inspiring women in our communities to support youth and people in need of love, support and understanding, and to encourage them to take the necessary steps toward positive change. When I first wrote “Courageous Butterfly” I said to myself, if I can reach, inspire, or bring hope to one person in need of courage and strength to transform their own life, it would be all worth it. A year later, and my book is still going strong, travelling the world, and touching the lives of many. My heart is humbled, and overwhelmed with joy. When you make the choice to follow your heart amazing things happen, and this nomination was proof of this. I would like to thank my marvelous husband for his extraordinary support, for loving me to pieces no matter what, for being my rock and grounding force. I also want to thank my wonderful children, Tyeson and Spencer, and my sweet angel Jessy for teaching me about life, they are my greatest accomplishment. To all my soul-sisters out there, thank you for being you, the world needs people like you. To my good friends Sasha, Carrie-Ann, and Luisa, thank you for being there last night, your support, love and friendship means so much to me. I want to thank my mother and sisters for their great courage and unbelievable strength to survive a difficult childhood and for their strong desire to change and be happy. To all the great women who took the time to write a letter to the Zonta club for my nomination I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I already felt like a winner, the moment I read your letters, thank you for your trust, love and support. I am truly blessed."
